The five-minute daily ritual

The Scout's daily work is a short loop: read the reason, dismiss or reply, post from your own account. Here is the ritual, and how the reply variants reshape a draft without loosening the rules.

Last updated July 15, 2026

Each kept conversation arrives with a drafted reply, grounded in what the thread actually said and critiqued before you see it. Your part is short, usually five to ten minutes a day.

01 · The ritualThe loop

  1. Open the day, from the digest email or the inbox.
  2. Read each card’s reason. Dismiss anything that does not deserve you; that is a normal outcome, not a failure.
  3. For a thread worth joining: copy the reply, open the thread, paste, and tweak anything that does not sound like you.
  4. Tap post from your own account, then mark it replied. Save a thread for later if today is not the day.

The tweak in step three matters more than it looks. The draft is grounded and safe, but your voice is what makes it land. Even thirty seconds of making it sound like you is worth it.

02 · DefaultsSet the default shape

When you start a scout, Auto is already selected. You can leave it alone, or choose Brief, Balanced, or Detailed as the default length for new replies. These are ceilings, not quotas: Scout stops when the answer is complete instead of padding it to fill a range.

You can also say how comfortable you are with product suggestions: let Scout decide, keep mentions to direct-fit asks, or never suggest the product. This setting can only make a reply stricter. Community rules still win, and if a thread already names your product, the reply still discloses that you built it.

Both defaults live in Scout settings and apply from the next scan. They do not rewrite replies already waiting in the inbox.

03 · VariantsReshaping one reply

Under each draft sit up to four reply-shape variants: More direct, Softer, Ask a question, plus Shorter or More detail depending on the original. They are one-off changes to that reply, not changes to your defaults. They reshape the draft without loosening the rules the card carries. Where a product mention is off the table, More direct simply is not offered. The copy button always takes whatever variant is active, and you can return to the original at any time.

04 · StandingYour account shapes the drafts

If you have linked your Reddit username, every draft also respects what that account can safely do. A cold or developing account gets value-first drafts and a seasoning note rather than risky ones. See Reddit account standing for how that read works.

The room is still yours to read

The Scout judges whether a thread is worth your time; whether your reply fits that specific room is still your call, and it is the call that matters most. The habits in posting to Reddit without getting burned apply to every reply the scout hands you.

FAQ

Common questions

No, and that is deliberate. There is no setting anywhere that loosens the gate. A card that must stay value-first stays value-first in every variant, and where a product mention is off the table, the More direct variant simply is not offered. The rules are what keep your replies landing as a person instead of a pipeline.
